The hawks' behavior tells me it is time to get serious about building a nest.
Today, both hawks flew to the cypress tree, and Roxie watched as Rufous began to gather sticks from the ground. |

Rufous carefully selected the right sized stick, then flew up and to the right! Hmmm... He did not fly up to nest tree. Where did he go? In a few minutes Rufous returned, and began searching for another stick. This time, I went to the front of the house, so I could see where he was going. To my dismay, he swooped up high and zipped over the trees as fast as a rocket to the east of our house.
